(Carson City, NV; September 27, 2016) – Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske reminds Nevadans that today, September 27, 2016, is National Voter Registration Day. Today, organizations and volunteers from all over the country will join together in a coordinated field, technology, and media effort to create awareness of voter registration opportunities.
“Registering to vote in Nevada is easy, fast, and convenient. I encourage all eligible Nevadans to register to vote so that their voices can be heard on Election Day,” said Secretary Cegavske. “As Americans we are fortunate to have the right to participate directly in our democracy, and registering to vote is the first step in this process.”
Eligible Nevada residents with a valid driver's license or identification card from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles can register to vote online at www.RegisterToVoteNV.gov. Current registered voters can also update or change their existing registration information online. Those who prefer to mail in their voter registration application can fill one out online, print and sign the application, and return it to their local election official.
The deadline to mail in completed voter registration applications for the 2016 general election is October 8th, while the deadline to register to vote online or in person is October 18th. Voters can verify their registration status by logging in to the Secretary of State's MyVoterFile application here or by visiting the Elections Center at www.nvsos.gov.
In addition to celebrating National Voter Registration Day, Secretary Cegavske reminds Nevadans that Governor Brian Sandoval proclaimed September 2016 as Voter Registration Month in Nevada. Questions relating to voter registration may be directed to the Secretary of State's Elections Division at 775-684-5705 or nvelect@sos.nv.gov, or by contacting your local County Clerk or Registrar of Voters.
